2nd Snow Day

It snowed all day on Thursday and by Friday morning we had 9 inches of snow on our sidewalk! We had to measure for proof!!!

1st Snow Day 2010

Our first snow day of 2010! After breakfast we went outside and played in the snow. Addison actually wanted to walk in the snow this time. Her first experience with snow was not as adventurous.

I cannot remember when we actually had good enough snow to build a snowman.

I think Addison is still wondering what this stuff called snow really is.

Happy Birthday Aunt Hattie

Back in November my grandma had a great idea. She knows that I have enjoyed making blankets and she had been thinking of her sister, Hattie and how sweet it would be to make a blanket to give her for her birthday. Since Hattie's birthday is in February, I thought that would be perfect and that would give me plenty of time to make it. Aunt Hattie has always been so sweet to our family and I knew that Aunt Hattie had not been feeling well so I enjoyed picking out some fun, bright colored fabrics for her blanket and began working - mostly when Addison was napping or at night. There were a few times when Addison was able to help me by handing me safety pins and sitting in my lap while at the sewing machine.

I only wish I could be there to see Aunt Hattie's expression when she opens her present from all of us.

It took me a little while to get some pictures taken, but here is my completed Wild Thing quilt. It is certainly not perfect, but I am learning as I go. I had fun making it and now it is resting on our couch for us to enjoy.

Halloween

This was Addison's first Halloween to go trick or treating in our neighborhood. We dressed her up as a bumble bee. It was so much fun. (Thanks to cuz Avery for letting us borrow her old halloween costume). I was surprised that Addison actually did not mind keeping her costume on and she quickly learned how to knock on our neighbor's doors to ask for candy!

Halloween Banner Giveaway Contest

I usually don't decorate for Halloween as much as I like to decorate for fall and Christmas around our house. However, there is a really cute blog called The Polka Dot Chair that is doing a giveaway contest for a cool Halloween banner to go on your fireplace mantel. This would be something fun to make for birthdays and other holidays that we celebrate all year...so I am inspired to enter the contest and if I don't win then maybe I will just have to give a try at making a Thanksgiving and Christmas banner myself!

I wish I could be this creative on my own . . . it definitely inspires me to try to make one too!

Addison's Quilt

I wish I had made this much sooner!! I finally made a quilt for Addison. At first I wanted to make her a quilt simply because I had not and I also needed to do something to protect her crib from any further teething frustration. So, I made a ragged squares quilt and I added tie backs to the four corners to easily tie it onto the railings of her crib.

I'm so excited to have purchased some Moda fabrics. I have been eyeing the Moda Bakeshop for awhile now and have finally been inspired to create something of my own. It may take me a while to find time but here are my new projects:

I want to use Pashmina for something in our family room.

and I have fallen in love with a quilt over at Camille Roskelley's site Thimble Blossoms called Wild Thing. I was able to purchase her pattern and most of the same fabrics to make the quilt..now I just need to get to work. I will have to let you know how it goes.

On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country.

Pigtails and the Splash Pad

Addison's Pillow Case Dress

Here is Addison's new pillow case dress.

I am so excited that it turned out to be so cute and it was fun to make too!!

First, I found the old pillow case that I had mentioned from my earlier post. I decided to fold it in half and then cut it to be about 20" in length. I thought that would be a good length for Addison. She may even be able to wear it next summer as well.

Next, I opened the pillow case onto my cutting mat and using a pencil I lightly traced and cut about a 3" curve for the arm holes.

I then used my rotary cutter to cut three 2 1/2" pieces from the top of the extra pillow case fabric. This fabric will be used for the binding on the arms and the binding at the neckline.

I ironed the binding fabric and then folded in half across the width.

I may have missed a few pictures of the next couple of steps. But I sewed the binding first across the neckline on both sides..and made sure to sew as close to the edge as possible. ( I wanted to make sure that I could slide the elastic through once I was finished sewing).

Then I used 2 pieces of soft elastic, about the width of Addison's collar bone, and with the help of some safety pins, slid the elastic through the neckline.

After that, I sewed the binding along the armholes. This part also helped to secure the elastic in place.

Time for Things I Love

It has been awhile since I have written so I thought I would share some of the things I love. Spending time with my husband Jason, my sweet girl Addison, playing in the yard and sewing.

Jason has just finished up his class for the summer...no more summer school for him. Just one more semester and he will graduate with his masters this December! We are so proud of all of his hard work- but ready to have the extra time to spend as a family in the evenings.

Working in the yard is one of my favorite stress relievers and is now a way to spend quality time with my sweet girl. Addison has been helping me water the the flowers in the yard and so I recently bought her a Little Tykes watering can. She has so much fun!

I have also started sewing again- mostly when Addison is napping or has gone to bed at night. It is too difficult to find more time during the day. My newest project was a pillow case dress for Addison. When I was about 20 years old I remember going through my parent's linen closet and packing up old things to move. At that time I found an old pillow case that I knew would be a cute dress for a little girl one day. So, I saved that pillow case and just recently I was reminded and inspired by another blog, called Freshly Picked
So, I went through my things and found the old pillow case that I had saved. I am so glad that I have a girl!! It turned out so cute and was so easy to make the dress that I made a second one the next day!

The Donkey

I just have to include a picture of my brother's new baby on my blog. As you may or may not know, Wesley owns two donkeys...a male named Jake and a female named Jenny. Wesley had noticed that Jenny was eating more food than usual and that she was gaining weight. He was a little suspicious that she may be pregnant, but he did not know for sure. The week before my dad's surgery Wesley had gone out of town for work and my parents had a nice bed and breakfast get away. As my parents were returning home and driving up the driveway, my mom noticed another animal in the pen with Jake and Jenny. As they got closer they realized that is was a baby donkey!!! It appears to be a male and so they have named him Juno (more since he was born in June). I cannot wait to take Addison to see him. He really does look cute!

We went to eat dinner at the Blue Goose in Highland Village after church last weekend. When we finished dinner we walked around and discovered a great fountain area. Addison loves playing in the water and was immediately interested in getting wet....she did not have her bathing suit, but that did not stop her. We also ran into my good friend Mandy. The month of June has just flown by! We have had so much going on from birthday parties, Addison's first trip to the beach and my dad's surgery. We are so thankful that my dad is doing well and is now taking some time off to recover from his surgery.

Addison is becoming more and more independent each day. She loves to walk, but she does not want to hold our hands...she can do it on her own!! She even walks so much that she will even walk in circles just to keep going. It is fun to watch her! She really is a sweet heart. She also loves eatting fruit, giving kisses, swimming, riding in her red wagon, turning the pages in her bible, pointing to Jesus, and watching Sesame Street- for Elmo of course.

We had so much fun this weekend celebrating Addison's 1st birthday. We had our family come over to help us celebrate the big day. It turned out to be a really nice party. We ordered Addison's birthday cake from the Texas Star Bakery and we had lots of good food. Thanks to Addison's Mimi and Papa, Grammy Cheryl, Aunt Donna and her Great Aunt Theresa and Great Grandma Robinett for helping to bring food, tables, chairs, ballons, silverware and more it all came together. Addison is such a sweetheart and a blessing to us. It was fun to see her eat her birthday cake, open presents and play with her cousins. The most exciting part of the day was Addison began to walk!!! So, she actually started walking on her big day. It made for a really special day!

This weekend we stayed with my parents. There is a great spot on their property that has a big patch of bluebonnets right now. It was the perfect place to take a few more pictures of Addison. I cannot believe that my sweetheart is 10 months old! Before we know it her 1st birthday will be here.

1. She goes to bed around 7:30p.m. and sleeps through the night!
2. She loves taking a bath and will start to crawl to the bathroom if she hears the bath water running.
3. Addison enjoys watching and listening to her Praise Baby DVDs. They are great!
4. Her favorite foods right now are bananas, mandarin oranges, nilla wafers, and cherrios.
5. Addison does not like to wear a bib when she is eating in her high chair.
6. She is a wiggle worm and cannot stay still long enough to have her diaper or clothes changed.

Date Night

This Wednesday night Jason and I had the chance to go out to eat....without our sweetheart. It was a pre Valentine's Day date. We decided to go to Joe T's since we had not been there in such a long time. It was a fun night. Good Mexican food, fun atmosphere and we were even serenaded by two guitarist. It really was a fun night for us.

Unfortunately, Miss Addison did not enjoy spending time away from her mom and dad. Addison spent the evening with her Aunt Theresa, Great Grandma Robinett, and her Grandpa Robinett for a little while too. We just knew she would have such a good time and show off her new crawling skills. But she decided to cry most of the evening instead. I am glad that she cheered up once we returned from our date night so that Grandma and Theresa could see our sweetheart's sweet personality. We will just have to spend more time with Grandma and Theresa for Addison to enjoy her time away from us more.

The Zoo

Addison, Andrew, Allegra and I all had the chance to go to the Fort Worth Zoo while they were in town. We had a good time. It was Addison's first time to the zoo...and Andrew's second visit to the Fort Worth Zoo. I later noticed that I only took one picture of Addison, but I have a camera full of cute pictures of her cousin Andrew. He was so excited to be there he ran from exhibit to exhibit.

I cannot believe that our baby girl is 8 months old! She has just been a blessing and a joy to our lives! We are having so much fun watching her learn and explore the things around her. We had to lower her crib mattress because she has learned how to pull herself up and pull down her moblie.

Extreme Home Makeover

Did you know the Extreme Home Makeover was right here in our neck of the woods? Jason's brother Joel works for Wall Homes.........who happened to be chosen to be the builder of the Extreme Home here in Keller! So, Joel signed us up to volunteer. We had a great time. It was a neat experience to be able to contribute to. Jason was able to work by throwing bricks up to the masonary workers and I was able to help unload the Sears trucks. We even stood outside in the cold to say "Move that Bus". I will say that I am jealous because Jason did get to go inside the home! But I did get a picture of Ty! :) Watch for the episode to air in late February or the beginning of March.

I know that I was not sure how he would react to me since it had been two years since he had last seen me in person. We had a wonderful time celebrating the Jesus' birthday with our family this year. We were able to spend time with the Hoyt side of the family on Christmas Eve and we saw the Robinett's on Christmas Day. This year was extra special beacuse we had Allegra and Andrew come to visit us and we had fun introducing Addison to the season of giving. It is neat to think that we get to teach her the meaning of Christmas and start thinking about what traditions we would like to begin with our familiy. To think that we may give gifts to the ones we love because God gave us the greatest gift......his son Jesus. With this being Addison's first Christmas I knew that she may not remember the gifts that we chose for her, but she sure did catch on fast to opening presents.

This year for Thanksgiving we celebrated with the Hudnall side of the family. We were able to see Grandma and Grandpa Hudnall, Great Aunt Jean, Aunt Donna and Uncle Tommy, Matthew, Martha, James and Chris, and Addison's Grandma and Grandpa Robinett and of course her Uncle Wes and John. I thought you may all enjoy seeing Addison in her official Halloween costume. She dressed up as a butterfly for her 1st Halloween. Jason and I had fun spending time with our friends and dressing up too! Addison was able to see so many different people on Halloween. She saw a pumpkin, a princess, a lobster, a chicken, Spiderman, Superman, a bunny and she even saw her fairy grandmother! :)

Have you started solid food yet?

This has been the question of the day. I have been going back and forth wondering how and when should we start solid food. At Addison's 4 month well check up our Dr. said that we could start anytime that we would like to between 4-6 months. I never expected that this would be such a big deal for me to transition into. I feel like breastfeeding with Addison has surprisingly been such a sweet bonding experience. Addison is certainly getting what she needs, so why would we want to change a good thing? Well I had one of those moments looking at Addison I thought back and remembered watching my mom cry as I left home for A&M my Freshman year. I am pretty sure that I rolled my eyes and thought how silly she was for crying. But now I know I am going to be the same way. Looking at Addison now, I know that I am raising her to become independent so that one day (thankfully not very soon) she will also leave her home to go on to bigger things. All of this past through my mind when I knew that Addison was showing signs that she was ready to try food. She has also been very interested in watching us eat. So, we finally tired rice cereal for the first time this Sunday. It was fun letting her get messy and experience solid food for the first time.

It was so much fun to have another baby shower for three girls in our home group this weekend. Keri, Anna and Kasey I cannot wait to meet your precious little ones soon! It has been such a neat experience to share this special time with so many of our close friends. Kathleen and Keri I have learned so much from watching you with your children. I know that Jason and I look forward to the many good times that are ahead.

A butterfly!

I recently found some cute purple butterfly wings for Addison to wear for Halloween. I know she is a little young to be trick or treating this year, but she can sure have fun dressing up. I was trying to decide on what I would want her to wear with her wings when I got the idea to make her a tutu. I really enjoyed making her purple tutu to match her butterfly wings. I even started thinking that I would enjoy making more.

If anyone is interested in a tutu for a sweet little girl, just let me know and for a reasonable price it could be yours! There are a wide range of colors that you could make them with. I used mostly purple and a little bit of pink tulle for Addison's tutu. Addison's tutu is also made with an elastic waist, but I could also make them with a ribbon tie back for longer wear.

The Pumpkin Patch

This weekend we went to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch. The best part was it is free to go. I was really impressed and we will certainly go back next year. I have passed by the Pumpkin Patch for years and always wanted to go and now I have a reason. Jason and I sure had a good time posing Addison for pictures. I think that Addison will enjoy the Pumpkin Patch even more next year when she can really get to experience it.

On Saturday night, our Grandpa Robinett finally went home to meet his Savior. Our family gathered together this week for his memorial service. We have been so lucky to have had him with us for so long and I feel so blessed to have had all of my grandparents for this long. He was truely sourrounded by a loving family. He had my sweet Grandmother and Aunt Theresa who took great care of him daily and my Aunt Yvonne, Uncle Nathan and my dad who all loved and visited him often. He lived to be 88 years old. He and my grandmother had just celebrated 67 years of marriage. I wish that we could have gone to visit him more often these past few months. I am so proud of my brother Wesley for visiting with our grandpa weekly. I am also thankful that Jason and I were able to take Addison to recently visit him.

It was nice to go and visit Addison's Great Grandpa Robinett this Sunday. We did not realize that it was National Grandparents Day until Aunt Theresa called us later to thank us for visiting him. He looked so much better than he did the first time we took Addison to see him. Today he was actually sitting up in his wheelchair and enjoying the fish tank in the lobby of the nursing home. Addison liked looking at Grandpa and she even smiled for him. While we were there Grandpa knew who we were and he even asked us questions about our kitchen cabinets. He did however ask a couple of funny questions like, "Why does the baby have a rash on her face?", something about why is my dad's eye hanging out and the one that breaks my heart the most ... he wants to know what car did we come in because he is going to leave with us. We sure do love our grandpa!

Football has started

This is officially the second weekend for Jason to be consumed with watching football. You know that there is high school football, A&M football and the Cowboys! He is even teaching Addison Aggie traditions of wearing maroon on game days. As long as watching football is done in moderation, I am fine. But the girls just may have to go shopping sometimes when the games are on. :)

Our Kitchen is Finished!

It's A Miracle

Last night Addison slept from 9:30 until 5:00a.m.! That was a huge improvement. During this time last week she was waking up at least 3 times throughout the night. We did do something a little different to help her sleep through the night. What do you think? It looks pretty funny, but she liked it!

Christmas in August

We are excited to know that Allegra and Andrew will be coming for a nice long visit this year for Chirstmas! They will get to stay from Dec. 24th until Jan. 5th. I know that Miss. Addison will look forward to finally meeting her Aunt Allegra and cousin Andrew. I am also looking forward to seeing my nephew .... it has been 2 years since we have seen Andrew in person. I know that he has grown so much since the last time we saw him. He is already looking like a little man.

I am not sure that I am ready, but Jason has been getting Addison ready for the upcoming football season. I know that he will teach her all of the rules and traditions about Aggie football.

Back Up and Running

We have been without enternet for a week, but we are finally back up and running. Things are starting to return to normal in the Hoyt household. Starting next Tuesday we should have functional cabinets in our kitchen again. Hopefully it will all look as good as new when they are finished. I can't wait! I am ready to have a clean house again.

Crazy Times

Why does it always seem like everything that could go wrong happens at the same time? Lately I have thought of the song "Crazy Times' by Jars of Clay because that is how it feels in the Hoyt household. It all started a couple of weeks ago with a small leak under our kitchen sink. That leak revealed a much bigger problem...mold! It's a long story but we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. Praise the Lord, our home builder, David Weekly is coming to our rescue to repair the insulation, sheet rock and kitchen cabinets. They are also reimbursing us for what we had to pay for the plumbing to be fixed. it will probably take 3 weeks for our kitchen to look and function as it should.

We were able to get away to Beaver's Bend, OK with our good friends The Tomblin's. We had a nice and relaxing time. While we were there Jason's truck got a flat tire....he later found out that it could not be repaired. So, he had to buy a new tire!

Now that we have returned home we are trying to figure out ways to save money. The first thing that we have decided to do is look at bundling our phone/TV/DSL bills. We are going to be able to save in the long run by changing over to a new provider. But now that we have changed we learned that one of our telephones does not work...so we had to buy a new phone.

Miss. Addison had her 2 month doctor visit this past Tuesday. She did much better than I expected. Poor thing she got 4 shots!!! Needless to say she and I both had a tough day. This was one of those times that I think watching her get her shots hurt me more that it hurt her. Thankfully she will not remember getting them. I cannot believe that our little girl now weights 11 lbs. and 12 oz.

Then this morning as Jason was backing out of the garage a terrible screeching sound came from the garage door. It appears that a coil may have broken in our garage door. Jason was able to back his car out of the garage, but he had a neighbor help him to fix the very crooked door closed. It is a good thing that I don't have to go anywhere today because my car is trapped inside!

Happy 4th of July

We had fun celebrating on the 4th of July with our good friends Melissa and Jonathan. We cooked out dinner, visited with neighbors and watched fireworks over lake Grapevine. Thanks to cuz Avery, Addison had a cute 4th of July outfit to wear!

One Month Old!

Addison is officially one month old! She has already had an eventful week. Jason video tapped both of his girls while we were taking a morning nap. She had her one month doctor's visit. Addison now weighs 9lbs. and 11oz. and she is 21 and 3/4 inches tall! Addison also rolled over for the first time. That has been the most exciting event that has happened this week! Addison was spending some time on her tummy and began to get pretty frustrated. She began to wiggle around and the next thing I knew she was over on her back. It was probably a one chance event and most likely will not happen again for a few more months. But we will keep watching her!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day Jason! I know that he will always remember this year as his first Father's Day. We spent the day with the Hoyt side of the family on Sunday. It was fun to also get to see our cousin's Ryan and Sarah's little girl Hailey. She is 5 weeks older than Addison. It is hard to imagine our little girl being as big as Miss Hailey in 5 weeks!

More Visitors

We have had several friends and family members come to visit us since Addison's arrival. We enjoyed having Aunt Theresa and Grandma Robinett come over. I know that they enjoyed getting to hold Addison and getting to see her room. We also enjoyed getting to visit with cousins Alicia and Avery. Addison enjoyed getting to go through Avery's cute clothes and I know that Avery can't wait for Addison to be just a little bit bigger so that they can play together.

A Proud Daddy

Jason has enjoyed spending time with Addison. He is already determined that God is going to bless us with all girls especially since he works with a men's fraternity this may be one way God places women in his life. Since Jason knows that we are going to have more girls in the future, he is already making decisons on what their names will be. Jason has also intorduced Addison to his new favorite TV show- American Gladiators. He is already talking about how she could be next gladiator. I have loved watching Addison fall asleep on Jason's chest while they watch TV together. One last thought, Jason has already decided where Addison is going to go to college. Hummm...can you guess where that is???

Addison's First Bath

We had fun giving Addison her first bath on top of the island in our kitchen. It took three people to get everything ready for her bath. Grandma Terri helped to get the water just the right temperature and to pick out a new outfit. Jason helped by taking pictures of this memorable moment and I got the pleasure of making a very happy girl cry.

Addison Grace Hoyt

She is finally here!!! Addison Grace Hoyt finally arrived on Friday May 23rd at 7:44p.m. She weighed 7lbs and 7 oz. and 19 1/2 inches. Jason and I went into the hospital on Thursday night to be induced and had a very long day of labor on Friday. We had a lot of our friends and family come to visit us over the weekend at the hospital and we finally came home on Sunday. It is so good to bring our precious little girl home. This week my mom has been a huge blessing and has been my extra set of hands and has helped us with so much. We have also been blessed by our home group from church who have organzied to bring us dinner each night this week. They are awesome! So, far we have enjoyed every min. of Addison! She is such a sweet little girl and we cannot wait for all of our friends and family to be able to see her in person. Until then, hopefully some pictures will do.

We are joining the rest of you who have websites with cute pictures and updates about your family and friends. Any day now we should be adding a new member to our family and I can't wait to see what she is going to look like. I am now starting our 39th week of pregnancy. I really cannot complain. I am just starting to feel uncomfortable, it is difficult to sleep at night and I am tired during the day. I am not used to being so tired during the day, but it will all be worth it soon! Jason and I are both so anxious to see what plans God has for our family in the future.

Spring Is Here

Spring is my favorite time of the year. I love watching the flowers bloom in our yard and the weather is the perfect temperature (at least for a little while). The old is gone and the new has come! This year spring is especially exciting for us. Not only do I get to see flowers blooming in my yard, but we get to celebrate new life with our family and friends. We are counting down the weeks until our little girl arrives. We are now in our 35 week of pregnancy and I still cannot believe that we are pregnant and about to be parents! We have also had an exciting week with some good friends. On Tuesday we were able to visit our dear friends the Pritchard's as they welcomed their new bundle of joy Andrew Samuel. On Thursday we celebrated with The Spegar's as they welcomed their new little girl Savannah Grace (and we can't wait to go and see her soon). Then to finish off the week, we are anxiously awaiting news from our cousin's Ryan and Sarah, who are having a baby boy or girl today! It looks like we will get to see 3 brand new babies by the time the weekend is over. It is surreal to finally get to see the little ones that we have been praying for. I know this just means we are that much closer to meeting our little girl too!
